I got onto this book series from our awesome, book-loving, intern at my job. He had read one of the later books in the series and reported it was enjoyable and worked well as a stand alone. I decided to read up on the series to see if I would jump in where he did or if I should begin from square one. Who was I kidding?  My OCD would not allow me to go willy-nilly to some book in the teens of the series, I had to start where it all began. I was hooked from the first by the field expedition that is our opener. I was never bored, nor did I feel the plot lagged, what I did feel was that the characters got the most basic of treatments, I wanted more depth and hope I will get that in book two. Also the cheese factor was heightened due to a hard-boiled cop that is one of the main characters. But he did add to the overall color of the ensemble, and it doesn't hurt that I am a fan of reading about, "things that go bump in the night".

Mars love continues

Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham

21437200

The Neptune Grand has always been the seaside town’s ritziest hotel, despite the shady dealings and high-profile scandals that seem to follow its elite guests. When a woman claims that she was brutally assaulted in one of its rooms and left for dead by a staff member, the owners know that they have a potential powder keg on their hands. They turn to Veronica to disprove—or prove—the woman's story.

The case is a complicated mix of hard facts, mysterious occurrences, and uncooperative witnesses. The hotel refuses to turn over its reservation list and the victim won’t divulge who she was meeting that night. Add in the facts that the attack happened months ago, the victim’s memory is fuzzy, and there are holes in the hotel’s surveillance system, and Veronica has a convoluted mess on her hands. As she works to fill in the missing pieces, it becomes clear that someone is lying—but who? And why?

I was so excited to get not one, but two books within a year that sprang from the Veronica Mars movie, based on the fabulous, but sadly defunct television series of the same name. Rob Thomas (author and Producer) seems to deliver whether on screen or page. I can't get enough of Veronica's snarky, intelligent, razor sharp wit, and I hope I never will. You can find my review of the first book, here.
The books are a part of the Veronica Mars series but I think they can be read as stand alone's. As for this book it was all smooth writing and great plot that I wish had gone on and on. I have no idea when I will see a next book...but mentally I am already waiting in line for it!

Burning to get my hand's on more

Burned by Karen Marie Moning

12444297

It’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed.

Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil gets blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

How long have I waited for this book?? Over two years. It's been that long since KMM turned out another in the Fever series. Was the writing worth the wait? Totally! Was the story long enough to justify my wait? Nope! But then again when it comes to one of my favorite authors, there can never be enough published to keep me in my reading happy place.

If you have never experienced the Fever series I suggest you stop here and read the blurb from the book that began it all. If it sounds like it's for you, buckle up and take it for a test drive. If you do, drop me a line and tell me your thoughts, I don't mind being a passenger on your ride.

Readers Note: If you do decide to read the Fever series may I suggest three books before you drive away? They are not necessary to the Fever series, the characters in each of these books will only have a tiny part in the overall Fever series...the reason I am suggesting them is that their story lines are all kinds of deliciously steamy...and yes, they are also cheesy, but in a fun way. Each of the three books come from author's Highlander series. While I enjoyed many of the books in that series, these three stand out to me as the best. In order of reading they are:

You can thank me later!!
